I’ve seen this question come up A LOT lately! Maybe its from the warmer, sunnier weather 🙂 This little bit is something I learned when I used to do a lot more painting but the idea totally applies to copics too. If you try to shade yellow with a grey/black it usually turns out green and just kind of icky. I always encourage you to experiment and find your own likes but Y26 and Y28 are my go tos for shading yellow. I hope you enjoyed the tut and I hope it was helpful!

Yes!! hehe… I’m excited because before this tut, I used a dark yellow/brownish color to in highlights. It looked great, but I thought it was weird or wrong… lol. Thanks for the confirmation.

Awesome tip! I love Y26, and Y28, they keep things from getting to “bright”.

Thanks so much, Kristy! I’d love to seeore of these tuts. Short, direct & to the point. Easy to follow. I’m going to buy these yellows to add to my collection.
Michelle says:
thank you!!!! love it just don’t have Y28 or Y26
i have y11 y13 y15 y17 is there anything i can substitute for y28/26
prolly don’t have that either…lol gonna play with it
Kristy says:
So glad you found it helpful! I haven’t tried it but a couple good candidates to try out would be the E30s, E40s or E50s. They all seem to have a bit of yellow in them anyway so they might work really well! Let me know if you try it and how it works out!
Michelle says:
thanks so much Kristy I actually have some e30/e50’s!! definitely let you know how it turns out!! xoxo

Great! When I started with Copics I bought Y11Y13 Y15. Blending these just gave me plain yellow =/ I got so frustrated that I never touched them again =P
I’m happy to find out that I have the perfect colors for shading already in my possession =) Thx!
