Meet Royal!

Today is Release Day! :DDΒ

I’m always excite when its time to release some more stamps (the clear especially bc there’s so much more work involved) but for some reason these 2 have stolen my heart. When I draw up a design, they seem to take on a life of their own so I end up talking about them like they are their own person/animal/thing. That may seem kind of weird but that’s just how I roll πŸ˜‰ So anyway, our 2 new Nouveau Girls, Royal and Renew, seem so full of poise and that innate feminine grace that I totally love them.Β

When I create a card I usually create the card first then color the image that goes with it. For this particular card I got everything all done and for the life of me couldn’t decide what colors to color her with so I decided to do a B&W, mind you I had never done a B&W before so that was added fun lol. The toughest part of it is do make the different areas (skin, hair, dress) look distinct with a very limited tonal range while still keeping a good range of highlights, midtones, and shadows. This is actually a topic we talk about in our Advanced Class at Created for Color so I won’t bore you with all the specifics but I did a speed coloring video, that I’m going to share later this week, when I colored this. If you haven’t done it its really a great way to practice that! It makes you think more than a normal image does about those things. And then you can take that thinking and apply it to a regularly colored image.

I used papers from AC, Sass and Cosmo Cricket with Twinery Twine and Memento Ink on X-Press It. Royal was colored with the whole range of Ns (N0-N9), colorless blender (0) and RV91 for a hint on her cheeks. This might be one of my fav cards I’ve made in a long time! Β

OMG KRISTY!! You have outdone yourself! I neeeeeeeed her πŸ˜€ Wowee look at your stunning colouring…the pleats are perfect and I love how she is monochromatic πŸ™‚

    • Kristy says:

Thanks! I’m geeked you like her Alyce! I think she could work for a lot of different things too.

  • Kellie says:

ooooooooooo WOW I think having her in black and white makes her stand out and pop out at you and your card ROCKS! xx

    • Kristy says:

Thanks Kellie! I’ll take that as a big compliment bc I always love yours!

  • Jess D says:

one of the first times I coloured up Gifty Gwen, i coloured her using black and white. I loved how it turned out! I used SU! markers, so the range of colours isn’t as broad as copics, so struggled a little with the shadows…. I love your card, as always πŸ˜€

    • Kristy says:

I can definitely say that even with the limited colors I wasn’t as decisive as a I normally am when I colored this. I love that it got me thinking but it felt weird too bc I usually just put the brain on auto and roll πŸ™‚

  • Annette A. says:

wow wee this is so AWESOME…..I love it

    • Kristy says:

      Thanks!

  • Annie Rose says:

Holy crap this is so awesome. What a beautiful image, Kristy! Seriously amazing work right there. Love love. πŸ™‚

    • Kristy says:

HUGS Annie! For my first B&W I think she came out purty well πŸ™‚

  • Maria Therese says:

Oh lala!! You know how to draw them girl! This one is coming home with me when my crafty diet bet is over!!

    • Kristy says:

That diet would be killin me Maria! So many goodies to buy! Stay strong! πŸ™‚

  • Rachel Parys says:

She is wonderful! Your coloring is beyond fantastic! These new girls are so pretty, can’t wait to order them!

    • Kristy says:

Thanks Rachel! Royal has a very prim and proud look about her I think πŸ™‚

  • Leah Crowe says:

    shell shocked here.. total-stunner!
seriously. I love how you colored her B&W.. I can’t wait for the video!!
I’ve been too chicken to try this method. <3

    • Kristy says:

I think I was too, but its addicting!

  • Emma says:

Oh WOW Kristy, she is just gorgeous! I think these girls are going to be my all time favourite Odd Girls! I just love her and can’t wait to get my hands on them! You have done a fantastic job on your coloring as always it’s stunning!

    • Kristy says:

That’s awesome to hear that you like them so much Emma! πŸ˜€ Gave me a big ol smile :eeep: :DD Thanks tons!

  • Faye says:

Ooh this looks fab Kristy. The black and white is really striking with the pop of colour behind. I choose my paper, then desperately try to colour the image to tie in, then battle to make something that looks ok! πŸ˜‰ Have a great day. xx

    • Kristy says:

You make it sound like war Faye! lol! I stamp and cut out the image, build the entire card then sometimes stick it down with foam dots and color it on the card. Probably not the best method but I seem to forget that every go :3

  • Lissa says:

OMGoodness! I LOVE this! Kind of reminds me of the walk the evil step sisters did in Cinderella, but she’s WAYYYY more beautiful! You have so much talent! I’m a total sucker for historical romances and I think this would make a PERFECT image for a card holding a gift card to a book store. Can you tell I know a lot of people who are bookworms??

I have never thought to make my card first and then color the image. I think I might have to give that a try since I’m muse-less currently. I think I left it in Vegas a couple weeks ago.

Anywhoo. I’ll quit rambling. LOVE the card. The new images are now on the “need” list. πŸ˜‰

  • Laila says:

This is beautiful and I love the reverse effect with all the color in the background! So fun to have the banner in the center tied with twine too – so cute! πŸ˜€ Great coloring, of course! *Hugs
