Birthday Hat

I haven’t had crafty mojo for the last 3 months at least, besides coloring and drawing all my supplies have been gathering dust pretty much. When we were planning for this week’s Some Odd Girl birthday celebration Melissa suggested making our own party hats, it was not something I’d ever made and it made my crafty mojo peek up out of its long slumber.

The first thing I did was to make a template so I knew how to create (and recreate if I messed it up) the hat itself, the template is now available as a freebie in my shop. I am not the smoothest paper roller so I’d recommend a stapler if you go at this challenge.

I masked using my Q-Tip Masking technique and built up the kitty, from the Clever Kittys clear stamp set, with a party hat, cake and balloons, from Party Time, he turned out pretty cute!

The fringe and poof on top was created out of one sheet of tissue paper, another reason you want a stapler, cut into a fringe. A few sequins, some washi tape and awesome stars from Freckled Fawn finished it off.

If you’re also in a craft funk then this challenge is for you! I had a lot of fun figuring it out then seeing if that idea actually worked, which got the mojo going. To see more of the Girl’s examples then head over to the blog and see their awesomeness. You have thru Feb 2 to upload your entry into our challenge album in our Community so I’m personally challenging you to give it a go! See you there!

FANTABULOUS!!!!!! Love when the MOJO comes back! Love this Hat, !!!! I broke a mini stapler, could NOT find the hot glue gun, went and bought one….I collapsed…then I saw all the awesome hats and went back at it anew, I loved it, so much fun.. guess I need to get craftier more often.

I’m so glad mine didn’t break, no glue gun here either. I do have a vintage long reach stapler too, its nice for things like this. Your hat was freakin fab Kim!
