good things take time

Getting ready for CHA around here as really hit home to me the importance of patience and having a plan in place. I’ve had a lot of people ask about what the biggest struggles are running your own business and what the challenges are. Do you want to know mine?

Impatience.

Are you impatient?

Do it. Raise your hand. I have both mine up, not that you can see it.  :|| No, don’t ask how I’m typing with both hands up. Even though I’m impatient, at the same time I really LOVE to analyze everything and have a well worked plan in place, to do my research. Do you see where I’m going with this? One tempers out the other. The idea of doing something doesn’t put into perspective for you what actually goes into doing the thing.

When you’re getting started its easy to want to get the results now, to be impatient. After you pin down that wonderful idea into an actual plan its easier to have the patience to see each step done to work your way to the results you are after. With a small business failure rate of 85% in the first year it becomes apparent to me that I’m not alone in overlooking the necessity of making a sound plan.

I can pretty much say that as a business owner I’ve out grown the inherent impatience that comes with taking on new project. I know enough about myself to let myself get all giddy excited about whatever is coming then to step back and break it down into everything that needs to get done. People struggle with time management all the time, or say they do. I think they struggle with impatience and not realizing all the time and steps necessary to getting a job done.

Anything you do in business or in life probably are going to take longer than you’d like or realize. Its the way it is. Are you trying to build up your blog traffic? Website traffic? Perfect your new products? Get your new shop up and running? All of these things take TIME. There is no short cut. You can’t be done with it in a snap if you want it done right and truthfully, you don’t want to be. Taking the time and getting a plan and each step in place then implementing your ideas will serve you better in the long run than dashing to the finish line. Short trip equal short success I really believe.

The analogy, good things come to those who wait isn’t quite accurate. I’m not going to sit around waiting for things to happen, I’m going to get out there and do them. I think it really should be good things take time or good things come to those with patience.

Yep, both my hands are in the air! I love the feeling of achievement I get when I’ve just reigned things in a little and then got where I wanted to be. Keep at it, you rock! x

Both of my hands are up too. I have very little patience. When you let things flow sometimes it just happens…It is a great feeling. You are doing an awesome job and know that you are a great achiever and will succeed in anything you do. I think that is so cool…
