    A small obsession

Everybody has something that makes them happy that may not be the most practical of things. Maybe making models *ahem Mr*, or collecting plates, or maybe cute vinyl toys.   I might be guilty of that last one too.   My small obsession is pretty appropriate considering who I am and what brings me joy. I collect vintage wall mounted pencil sharpeners.       What makes these completely unpractical? I only use mechanical pencils HA!   The remind me of back in the day, getting your favorite pencil to the perfect point and heading off to draw. Though back then they weren’t as cute as my 2 up there, just…

Between the Real and the Odd

Art is always an evolution and lately I’ve been playing around in my Ballpoint Pen Sketchbook, seeing if I could get something part way between my realistic style and my Odd style.   Here’s what I came up with…     What do you think?   An need smish of both worlds. Kaylee and her crew look nothing like, at 6 years old, that they did in year one, and while I don’t foresee them having any giant changes coming up, bridging that gap and seeing where it takes me is another art adventure. The style I use for Some Odd Girl is one I developed all on my own,…

    Birthday Hat

I haven’t had crafty mojo for the last 3 months at least, besides coloring and drawing all my supplies have been gathering dust pretty much. When we were planning for this week’s Some Odd Girl birthday celebration Melissa suggested making our own party hats, it was not something I’d ever made and it made my crafty mojo peek up out of its long slumber.     The first thing I did was to make a template so I knew how to create (and recreate if I messed it up) the hat itself, the template is now available as a freebie in my shop. I am not the smoothest paper roller…

    6 years of Odd

I’m singing it from the roof tops, today is the 6th Birthday of Some Odd Girl! I guess you could call it the 6th anniversary of my career as a professional artist.  I’m not going to lead you to believe that its been all a song and dance (I can’t stop the puns), but its been quite an adventure. Many ups, many downs, a ton of learning and learning things I didn’t think I’d ever need to know. But even thru everything, there is no regrets. I love being able to do what I do, all the people I’ve met, the friends I’ve made that I hope to keep for…

Organize Your Week, free planner printables

Every one is incredibly busy these days. Busy has become almost a badge of honor, like some kind of martyrist ideal. I don’t know about you, but I really love the time I carve out when its just me, maybe the Mr, my cats and I can watch one of my historical documentaries or other girly shows that no one else wants to watch but me. You know which ones I mean. Being so damn busy, being everything to everyone, if we don’t plan out at least some of our time, to make sure everything gets done and so you can work toward future goals, we’re going to be running around…

    Raise, new art print

Woohoo! First official full week of my new blog schedule, if you missed it last week, Monday’s are Art days. I wanted to share a bit more with you about my latest art print, Raise. Its my third print since starting this part of my art journey. I really feel like there’s been a learning curve with picking up new techniques and coming to grips with the differences between traditional mediums that were my go to’s and this. Besides the fact that I can not, as of yet, go color in bed while watching tv, that is a goal for the future. In the first piece, Wind, it was mostly,…

    2016 OLW & Goals

Today I want to share my personal and professional goals for 2016. I like goals vs resolutions because they seem more like actionable plans. I'm a list maker and love checking things off, it gives you those little rewards of accomplishment along the way that are motivating to keep checking them off and goals work with that quite well. Each year I pick my "one little word" and create goals to support that word.

    new blog posting schedule

For a while I've been struggling with what to post on my blog on a regular basis. There's a bunch of seemingly disparate things going on around here that I didn't think I could figure out a way to make sense of posting without a rhyme or reason.

    January Patreon Goodies!

Happy New Year! I’m excited for 2016, it might be pretty clique but a new year always seems like a clear slate and new possibilities. Today I get to send out the goodies for my lovely patrons on Patreon. They will be getting (as soon as the manager quits 504-ing on me) the line art for Raise, my latest digital art print on Society6, as well as the line art for Smoke, and a January downloadable desktop calendar background. That background is just an extra goodie I’ve enjoyed making and I hope they’ve liked using them. I’m not sure yet what February will be bringing you yet Patrons but its the month…
