Happy Monday! If you didn’t stop by over the weekend you’ll see I’ve got a buko amount of changes on here going on! I was talking with some of the girls in the Paper Issues team (whom I love to bits!) and we are doing some mutual blog critiques.
I’ve been a little unsure at the direction I wanted to take with my blog since while I still craft and make things I’m doing it less than I used to and I’m back to drawing more and I’m learning more about biz topics that are interesting to me by reading some books and listening to a few podcasts while I’m on the treadmill in the mornings. I was also reluctant to put art up on the blog bc I do a lot of sketches that might not go anywhere or are just for fun and when the all don’t make it to digi I end up getting a ton of flak but the girls pointed out that its my blog and those people will always be around.
So long winded story short, you’ll still see crafty things and copics here but you’ll also see more biz stuff (since Some Odd Girl is my baby :>), art, sketches and general life stuff here. You can see on the right I’ve added some easy to click Featured Posts for those categories too. The Tutorials page above has gotten a makeover too and I still have a few things to finish up here and there Its so much more organized!
The biggest change has to be not in the blog itself but in my attitude towards it. I was really, and still am for the most part, self conscious about putting myself out there and really showing off. The things I draw esp are super special to me and believe it or not, for all my sarcasm and snarky fun I’m shy about the whole “look what I did!” part. I want to come out of the shell so I’m just going to do it!
That’s the biggest reason I changed the header. Besides its updated with my new hair cut its putting the “this is MINE” stamp on the whole thing.
I thinks its a pretty good day, 1 week into my diet and its going well, did 45 minutes on the treadmill this morning and it was great so feeling guuuuuud This plan is more substainable for me personally as I can eat with my family so it feels like less of a diet than making a change. Making a change can be tough too but when you know its so much for the better and you’re not doing it all alone its way more easier to do. So 5lbs down officially, have a lil water issues because of a visiting Aunt but we’ll see next week how its really panning out. By the beginning of April 2013 I will have lost ALL the weight I’m out to lose and that’s really a great motivator to just do it and get it done. Oh! And for this one, no driving 2 hours to get there multiple times a week and I can bring my son to appts if need be which I was not allowed to before. So sorry to sound mean but… suck it old place!
I do have this to share today lol! Before I go too far on diet tangent This is Crushin Gwen, who might be my fav of the Gwens so far! I colored this one while at Denny’s with my girls at CHA but she hadn’t made it onto a card (yes, I suck sometimes lol). But I got the chevron punch from EK success and SO had to use it and went to town punching papers! It came out simple but I like it with the stripes.
I might have gotten carried away with putting freckles on Gwen but I also might have been distracted by awesome conversation and cookie skillet Sitting with friends coloring with Copics and eating a warm gooey chocolate cookie with vanilla ice cream is pretty much bliss in my book! So Leah, Carisa and Melissa, you all rock! Its a good thing I don’t think there is a Denny’s near the hotel in Chicago or we’d have to repeat lol.
On this card the papers are AC’s latest Dear Lizzy Line, Gwen is Crushin Gwen and she was colored with Copics. I’m not exactly sure on the colors as I was a bit distracted ;) I am linking this beauty to Paper Issue’s Show Me Your Chevron link up. Miss Cassie Box is where I buy almost all of my paper crafting goods as you know I have to support her, 1) She’s just plain awesome 2) She’s another Woman run Small Biz and 3) did I mention she’s awesome? She’s my paper addiction dealer lol Not to “sell” anything but if you do get sucked in to her shop and go to buy something, use the code ODDGIRL when you go to check out for 20% off your order Does that make me the middle man dealer? Maybe… I can live with that lol.
This cute little tag has been sitting on my desk just waiting for me to finish coloring the bird for about a month now. If you have the Gwen in Bloom set you know he’s not a giant bird and it took me all of 5 minutes… now why that took so long to finish is beyond me! Geez.
I do heart how he turned out though I wish I had left the white off his tail but overall I like how the opaque white added a little more texture. I applied it with a very small brush but I think I need an even smaller one, I’m all about pinpoint control.
Here’s a little peek of a new design I worked on this weekend. I am trying like all get out to get as ahead as possible then I can step back and take my time to look at some other projects I’ve got to get started on but these designs are looming to have them ready by when I need them! I’m happy to say that I don’t have that much more to go, probably like 6 more sets? I think that would make me happy! Last week was simply not the week, it seemed, to do much of anything overly productive, not for lack of trying, with both kids home and I started a new diet. a whole crap ton of distractions but at least today is back to normal and back on track!
This might sound weird… I know, when don’t I? but I saw 5 deer this morning and that means its going to be a good day or even a good week! Its my own little superstition
Now that the world is back to rights then I can get posting back to rights too LOL! I’m *thinking* about cleaning out some of my stash and doing some mystery box giveaways… is anyone interested?
Well this is so fun to be able to share! I’ve been hanging on to it and it was posted yesterday (I didn’t want to post it first LOL) but I was a Special Guest for the Tiddly Inks 2 Year celebration! :V I don’t usually do things for other stamp companies (because of time usually ) but Christy is so wonderful and I’d call her a friend so when I was approached it was that much more special.
Guests were asked to create something around the theme “Frame the Moment” so that’s just what I did!
Isn’t she cute? I used Lil Claire’s Bouquet and my new 6×6 pad from Cosmo Cricket, which has swept me off my feet! LOVE the camera paper I had a really fun time putting this card together and coloring up Claire, especially her hair!
Her hair color reminds me of Miss Kellie Winnell lol, such a purty fiery mane!
I’ve got a little Speed Coloring Video to share today! You’ll have to excuse my shakey cam, my video set up broke and I didn’t realize this BS’d rig would be soooooo wobbly! I’ve ordered an ACTUAL tripod to do my future videos with so YAY. See what happens when something goes wrong? Its gets you to fix it. I’ve wanted the tripod for a while but thought eh, this is workin fine. Tripod would be better but eh. Well when I shrunk this video down from 45 mintues to 15 it REALLY made the shakes stand out! Its not all as shakey as the beginning but ugh.
The colors I used in this vid are: E40,41,42,43,13,15,18, Y21,23,26, BG11,13,18, BV20,23, Y11,15, YR65,68,W2,4,7
Spring Pup is a digi from next weeks Digital Stamp release by Some Odd Girl I realized that I do all of the colored samples for the site (especially the clear sets) and I could be doing videos of that! DUH. So I’ll have more of these in the future.
How is Spring Break for everyone else? Getting alot of coloring or crafting time in?
I have a fun card to share today that isn’t my usual ;) No copics! Say what?!??!?!!?
I know right?
I got these goodies (the lollipop flower, tag, boy/girl stamp and printed doily) from Kellie who is starting a new venture called Freckles and Pigtails and when I finally got to sit a bit and craft… well this was the result! The sentiment and heart stamps are from Some Odd Girl and the grey paper is AC.
I usually know something good is coming together when I barely have to think about what I’m doing and this was one of those times. Its kind of CAS in its lack of extras but there’s still plenty of visual eye candy.
I love how the boy/girl stamp and sentiment worked together… like I planned it or something lol.
Kellie hasn’t opened shop yet but you can see what’s coming on the blog or Facebook. Lots of fun and funky embellies!
Some Odd Girl is going to CHA! We’re going to have our first booth this summer at Rosemont! That is a pic of the convention center from last year. I’ve been to this convention center a couple of times and its really nice I’ll be staying LITERALLY across the street at the Embassy. I’ve known for a bit now but I just got my booth confirmation last night so I’ve been holding off until then to shout it to the tree tops!
We are going with a modest 10×10 size booth but you know we’ll pack a ton of fun into it! It may move from its current floor location but I won’t know until MAY. I’m so excited I’m bursting at the seams! I’ve been a busy bee getting things started for this and now that its official I can start dreaming up the booth. That is a heady and kind of anxious prospect. You know what you want it to be but with limited space and I’ll be driving all the contents down in my Aztek (yes I love that car, don’t you dare tell me its fugly ;) ) its got to be planned out well and compact! I can see some trips to Ikea in the future and luckily Chicago has an Ikea (we went the last time we were there) so if I miss anything I can make a run.
There will definitely be more to come on this AND SOON! I have a special contest in mind that I’m just waiting on the post man to bring me to get it started. That’s when I’ll officially announce it on the SOG blog too.
Big thanks to everyone for helping SOG to grow! We have more growing to do but we are well on our way!
With a list like that you know there’s things to be done! How do you keep all of your “to dos” organized?
It actually makes me feel better to lay out all of the big things I can think of in a big color grouped list (I need more colors btw). Each of those has to be broke down into the things that have to be done to do it but still. If I leave it all up in my mind it can get overwhelming because it floats hither and nither which can be kind of scary. Making a visual list not only can take the “scary” out of your list but it lets you look at it and I bet you’ll see some items can get checked off really fast which is a good way to get your motor running to tackle the bigger projects.
A few ways I like to keep my To Do organized is…
- my giganto whiteboard. I color code my lists so I know what goes together which sometimes means I can knock them out faster
- clip boards. An oldie but a goodie! I use the clear acrylic ones, 6 in all, to keep order lists, designs and other things grouped together. AND the acrylic boards also can double as little dry erase boards, love the double duty!
- My phone. I have a couple of apps that I LOVE for getting my to dos done! My all time fav right now is Astrid Task (plus the power pack. The basic is free, the power pack is like $2). It lets me sort to dos by category and enter tasks with Voice which is super awesome! You can also set deadlines and reminders to keep you on task. It also has a widget that is always up so I can check things off as I go and the little Octopus mascot guy cheers you on and tells you to go to bed if its late lol. It now also has an online version that works with your phone that I’m going to be playing with
There’s lots of ways to keep yourself organized. What do you like?
Hey there! happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a fabby week! Mine has been nothing but busy… I want a nap BAD lol. I have this cutsie card to share today using Kaylee from the new Hey Kaylee set that debuted this week.
She turned into pretty much my fav Kaylee Too stinkin cute! I still want her hair and might have found a real version that might work for me… going to look into it! I used a whole mix of papers on this card (Echo Park, Cosmo Cricket, Dear Lizzy, WRMK) and simply inked the edges. I think it came out well!
I’ve had a lot of things swirling in my brain while still trying to keep up with the gym taking my turns at Dude’s school and some other stuff PHEW! Something I DO want to mention today is the next session for the Basic Class at Created from Color is open for registrations! WOOT! I’m really excited and am having fun with the class
I’ve got some more exciting things to come next week. Just waiting on some more info back! I know, I’m not super exciting today lol HUGGLES PEEPS!
