Play!

by Kristy on July 19, 2011

Wow! I wish I had another crafty project to share today bc that would mean I had spent the day in the air conditioning but we spent from 8am till 6pm with a 30 min lunch out in the 95 muggy soup weather putting this beauty together :) The kids are in love. Hubs is on vaca this week so I’m getting some time consuming things done and he’s out finishing the last bit this morning :)

Even the kids helped! Power tools have an undeniable allure to all ages :) I might have a little sneak peak of a new girl joining the SOG family with our September Clear Stamp release tomorrow :) Mae and Kaylee have a new friend! Or as hubs slipped and said and now can’t quit saying Kae and Maylee LOL!!! Its on his brain!

Guest at LilyPad Cards

by Kristy on July 15, 2011

Today over at LilyPad Cards, the challenge blog of Inlinkz (LOVE INLINKZ!) Some Odd Girl is sponsoring the challenge! The theme? Patriotic! Perfect for July huh? What do you think of my patriotic card?

What?

Its not red, white and blue?

Well I’m showing my patriotic streak for my home state of Michigan. :D I used Tweet and colored him like our state bird, the Robin and the flowers are our state flowers, apple blossoms. Tweet was PERFECT for this idea as these aren’t two digis but all in one :)

Hop on over to LilyPad Cards and join in! You can pick what you are patriotic for. Could be your country, state, college, home town, whatever makes your heart swell with pride! Put that on a card and link up!

Big thanks to Deborah and all the girls at LilyPad for having me, Some Odd Girl, and Odd Girl Sarah!

Photo Session Set Up

by Kristy on July 14, 2011

Since moving my office around I’ve had to come up with a new way to set up to take all the pics I need. I wanted something that didn’t take a lot to set up and could collapse and be put away. Above is my “photo booth.” Its stand alone so I could take it to any place I want to set up for pics. I have that window behind but it only gets good light for about 30 minutes a day. Here’s what I used to make it:

- A scrap piece of wood large enough for what I wanted. Its about 18″x24″
- 1 piece of white poster board
- a clip lamp
- Desk Lamp with adjustable arm
- 2 Daylight Bulbs
- Dowel
- Bits from the PVC pipe section at the hardware store:
2 – 18″ pipe with threaded ends
2 – Flange bases
2 – T splitters that fit your pipe
-4 screws
- Fabric of choice for your back drop
-ribbon (optional)

Seems like a long list but not really :) Everything just comes back apart when your done for easy storage.

Screw down the 2 Flanges, your bases for the poles, into the corners and twist on the T’s onto the tops of your long pipe/poles. We cut the tops off of ours with a hacksaw but you don’t have to.

My office is in my living room so hi to hubs in the background with his guitar and amp! *waves*

I sewed ribbon loops onto my background fabrics to run the dowel thru but you could easily just lay it over the top. I have 4 colors sewn together so I just flip to right one. Next is my 2 lamps. I used daylight bulbs in each then put a piece of vellum over the top (it doesn’t touch the bulb at all) to help diffuse the light.

On the cheapy clip lamp (I just clip it on to the arm of the other lol) it has an opaque shade so I lined it with tinfoil to reflect it back rather than loose the light in the wrong direction.

This is the type of daylight bulb I use. I bought a couple extra just in case :)

Lastly in my set up is the poster board. To keep the poster board up I just cut out a “hook” at the top corner so it hooks over the dowel.

I use this, shiney side faces toward the project, to bounce the light back on my project to keep the harsh shadows down. I don’t point the lamps directly onto the project for the same reason. They both point at the posterboard, the tall one also helps illuminate the background. So I’m really aiming past the project.

And here is my project with no editting, except cropping for size and adding my watermark.

I hope this isn’t TOO lengthy with TOO many pics. Its kinda a couple how-tos in one LOL! I hope this has helped someone as we all want great pics of our projects to be able to share :) Thanks!!!

Homemade fun!

Meet Autobot :)

My Dude is in love with the Tranformers Animated cartoon and when I emptied a box of packing stuff the other day and he started to walk around in it… well it was only a short leap to this :)

Autobot likes to do what all the other kids are doing…

even if he doesn’t fit.

but he can still throw a mean frisbee

and hop on the hopper ball

even if he falls off alot.

but Autobot is one cool dude.

I have a couple vids to edit that have to be shared! They crack me up! Autobot eventually goes down the slide, he even trasnforms for the camera, AND his first attempt at hopper ball… well you can imagine! Tin foil, a box, tape… good times :)

I’m still playing catch up from yesterdays power outage so maybe after lunch I’ll get my craft on and have more goodies to share. OR I might draw and work on more Nouveau Girls… I finished another one the other day :)

July Sneak Week BLOG HOP!

by Kristy on July 8, 2011

Welcome to our HOP!

I hope you’ve enjoyed all the Sneak Peeks from the week. Its been super fun for me to see what you think of each stamp each day. Literally, the best part :) Today each of the Odd Girls are featuring our last Sneak of the Week, Pinwheel Panda!

Pinwheel Panda has a tubby tummy and tushy. I can imagine him sitting in a field of grass and wildflowers perfectly content watching his pinwheel spinning in the breeze. He’d feel right at home at a birthday party OR on a congrats card.  I went uber CAS for my sneak card with a kraft base and AC patterned paper circle. Then just faux stitched my way around. Panda is colored with copics in the classic panda colors of black and white. He’s fun to color! His tubby bits give you plenty of room to texture up his fur too.  Here’s our measured piccy…

For your comment today, that will get you entered to win THE WHOLE JULY CLEAR STAMP RELEASE, I want to know…

What is your favorite stamp from this week AND why?

The hop runs thru July 10th at 11:59 PM EST.  Join us back on the SOG Blog on Monday when we announce all the winners! Thanks for stoppin by and joining us this week! Now make sure to hop along!

a Big Sneak Day for Tobie!

by Kristy on July 7, 2011

Tobie looks like such a big boy with his sweater vest O_O maybe its just me but I love a lil boy in a sweater vest, they are in danger of cheek pinching and random hugs from wearing them.  I heart this Tobie and sentiment because its perfect for a birthday, or a wedding. You might have to cover the candles but still :)

The recipe for this card is alot like the one for yesterday’s Tia with the PTI dies. Papers here are Sassafras, ink Memento and Tobie is colored with copics. Tobie really looks like a full ginger here lol. Here is the measured version for you all to take a looksy at …

Join us back at the SOG Blog at 9am EST tomorrow for our last sneak contained in a BLOG HOP! WOOT! You know what that means, BIG PRIZE in store! :) Each of the Odd Girls will be sharing their creation for the last sneaks on their blogs, and you’ll have to hop to see them, I haven’t even seen them! I can’t wait either! See ya there!

Sneaks Day 3, guess what’s cookin?

by Kristy on July 6, 2011

Or baking more rightly. This is Tiny Baker Tia and she has so stolen my heart! I loves her! If I was the mom of my stamps I might be accused of favoritism. ;) It might be her expression coupled with the big hat, I’m not sure, but coloring her up sure has been super fun!

For this card I used papers from Basic Grey’s Nook and Pantry with Bazzill cardstock. I’m super bummed that I’m almost out of that cupcake paper from the 6×6 pad. Its sooooo dang cute for this Tia! For the base of the card I used a PTI die. Tia is colored with Copics and stamped in brown Memento ink hence the softer look.

Isn’t she a cutie? Here’s the measured version to take a looksy at:

Both of the sentiments from this set also fit the frame seen on Sweet Thinkin Mae on Monday. A nice little bonus if you have both! You might have noticed that with Robin and Sarah’s Sneaks today. Observant Girls! :)  Don’t forget to leave a comment on the SOG Blog to be entered to win this sweet treat. You don’t want to miss out on your chance.

Sneak Peeks day 2 with Kaylee!

by Kristy on July 5, 2011

Howdy Sneaks Week Day 2!

I’m a little half awake still from staying out late for the holiday with the kiddos to watch the fireworks. Even though we were home WAY earlier than predicted. :) didn’t get to bed till 1am anyway so O_o they were worth it though!

Anyways, this Kaylee is certainly one of my favs! I love that she looks ready for a card or scrapbook page. All the little bits are versatile and fun. I really wasn’t sure what everyone would think of this one but decided to go with it anyway. If you follow Some Odd Girl on Facebook I mentioned how she’s my “Amy Pond” Kaylee. DH thought the skirt/shirt/jacket outfit reminded him of Amy Pond. My hubs is a big Dr Who fan :) Anyone else see it? It may just be him lol.

For this card I went simple and used Sass for the paper, bazzill for the strip and I’m not sure were the journal spot came from, I’ve had it for  a while, maybe someone can tell me? Then Kaylee is colored with Copics.

Hair: E70, E13, E15
Skin: E50, E1, E53, R30, R32
Clothes: E70, E71, E73, YG91, YG95, YG99, YG01, YG03, YG05, N3, N5, Y28
Eyes: G00, G01

Here is the measured version so you know what you’d be using…

Don’t forget about the shop wide sale going on right now, 25% off everything currently in store! Clear Stamps ARE INCLUDED :) Also we still have our DT Call going on! Check it out!

by Kristy on July 4, 2011

*happy dance* *cabbage patch* *booty shakin* *raise the roof*

all things that happen when I get giggy wid it. Trust me, that’s how you want to see it, written, not preformed. ;)

I’m super excited that this week is sneaks week for our SECOND Clear Stamp Release! WOOT! The first one of the week is Sweet Thinkin Mae. She has her own sentiment and frame :) A nice two-fer if I do say so myself. She is the first of 5 new Stamps hitting the shop on Monday but you get to see them all week long while taking advantage of the sale going on in the shop, 25% off everything currently in store! :) These new ones don’t hit until the 11th but you can get our first release on sale this week!

For my sneaks card I went Bright and lovey.  The papers are Sass (paper crush) and Crate. I stamped Mae with Memento and the sentiment with Cherry Staz-on, it was the red I had lol. Mae is colored with copics:

Skin: E000, E00, E01, R00, R01, R24
Eyes: E13, E15
Hair: E70, E71, E74, E77

On the Some Odd Girl Blog you saw the packaged version of the stamp but here I’ll show you the measured version so you can get an idea what you’d be using…
