A little Turkey Day fun!

by Kristy on November 28, 2011

I hope everyone had some fun on the holiday weekend and stayed safe from all the craziness on Black Friday! I thought I’d share some cute with you on some craftys we made with the kids :) First we made, that I even got the hubs to play along with, was making some fun turkey hats!

Yay for timer on camera :) We also made some Turkey Cupcakes for the kids since they don’t like pumpkin pie (gasp was the right response to that statement XD

We had a lot of fun and relaxed together as a family. We watched the Lions game and Pumpkin Chunkin. The kids LOVED Pumpkin Chunkin!

Since I took most of the long weekend off back to work I go! See you back here tomorrow!

Happy TurkeyDay!

by Kristy on November 24, 2011

Happy TurkeyDay! or thanksgiving ;) This is my last thankful card for the week tomorrow I’m hoping to have some fun pics from all the crafty projects I have in store for the kiddos today :DD We three spent 3.5 hours cleaning the house from top to bottom (they actually scrubbed the toilet and the floor XD ) yesterday so we could spend today having fun as a family.  We’re going to make Turkey Cupcakes, Turkey Hats, Turkey Rice Crispy treats, 3D Disguise Turkeys and whatever else I can think of. Chicka is going to be assistant chef to hubs who will be cooking 90% of dinner. I have only gravy and mustard beans to make, that ensures we’ll have yummy food to eat lol!

This card is mostly (again) using the October Afternoon paper pad, except the blue, that is from a scarp piece of Echo Park (I believe). I tried to pull the colors of the background paper into the coloring of Gwen but I’m not sure how well I did. The colors yes, but the placement… maybe could have been better. Anyways lol. Gifty Gwen was colored with Copics, stamped with Memento on XPress It.

I’m excited to get to sleep in for 5 days straight especially with hubs home the next 3. BLISS! I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving where you are you could always make it a personal family tradition just to get together and be thankful for each other. That’s how we roll. :)

Today I am Thankful for my hubs who is behind me every step of the way and is a constant source of encouragement and a wonderful cheering section!

Thank You For…

by Kristy on November 23, 2011

Someone may have to take this paper pad away from me! I’m in love with it! I reach for it over and over again  My second Thankful project for the week is another Thank You card. I needed a few more of these so I kind of went to town with a few lol.

I went really CAS and let the paper shine (LOVE the flower print here!) I have no idea where this design idea came from but its different with cutting the image off and I like it! I can see some variations of this you could make that I might have to explore. :)

Sweet Thinkin Mae is stamped with Memento and colored with Copics on XPress It CS.

Skin: E000, E00, E01, E11, V93, R00, R01, R32, YG61
Hair: E93, E95, E97, E99, E57
Clothes: YG00, YG02, YG13, YG17, YG61, YG63, YG95
Eyes: BG45, BG49

Tomorrow will be the first day the kiddos have off from school for Thanksgiving vaca so I want to find some crafty projects that we can do together. Maybe they’ll be a little more patient than last year. I swear the turkeys we made were made in a furious cloud and ZOOM they were off! Maybe a table cloth that they can stamp with paint? Hmmm.

Are you doing any projects with your kiddos?

Today I am Thankful for amazing friends from everywhere across the globe. You all know who you are!

It doesn’t have to be from last week, it can be from anytime BUT you can only link up once! So pick your best Thankful project and show me!

For our collage this week we have some super sweet projects! Katie packs alot of punch into an elegant CAS card! Rhonda does a fabulous job tempting Santa with a smexy card! Marcie made a sweet card for a sweet baby! Elena got creative and made a crafty calender for the whole year! Annette pairs up some nontraditional Christmas colors for a really fun holiday card!

My FAV thankful project was from last year when I made a banner for a new holiday tradition

You can read all the long details on the post :) I’m looking forward to getting it out again this year to keep it going! Its just going to be the kids, hubs and I for Thanksgiving this year (everyone else is going to florida) but that is actually going to be nice I think. A Note of Thanks

by Kristy on November 21, 2011

A Week of Thanks! This week I have 5 projects that are about being Thankful. :DD   Today I have a simple Thank You card using HollyDay Gwen.

I’m still elbow deep in the Sidewalks 8×8 paper pad from October Afternoon. I think I may be making up for winter wanting to decend and everything being super dreary. Bright warm colors make me happy :) HollyDay Gwen was stamped with Brown Memento and Colored with Copics on XPress It.

Clothes: R11, R12, R24, R37, R39
Hair: E51, E53, E55, E57
Skin: E000, E00, E02, E11, V93
Eyes: G20, G24

I have a feeling this week is going to ROCK!!! I have tons of awesome things going on that I can’t share but its SO HARD not to! :eeep:

Much of anything has to be better than on Friday where my phone took a swim in the water bowl :noes: I asked for a fancy phone for Christmas (keepin up with Miss Kellie Winnell! hehe her pics are so awesome!) so it might be coming early. I can’t call my hubs at work and being unable to text and stay connected with him (and my bestie Leah!) thru the day… I’m pretty much in withdrawl! I’m not getting an iPhone by the looks of it but I’m looking at a HTC Inspire 4G. I have been wanting a “purse camera” and with a 8MB camera it will fit the bill! Then I’ll be getting this awesome accessory before CHA in January. Unless some lovely person wants to get it for me for Chrimbo *bats eyelashes*

Going along with this weeks “Thankful theme” I want to hear what you are thankful for or if you have any Thankful projects you’re posting link up in the comments so we can come see.

Today I am thankful for the opportunity to follow my dreams and be home with my children. While they drive me insane at times I wouldn’t trade them for the world!

That kind of day

by Kristy on November 18, 2011

I’ve been dealing with interruptions in my internet connection for a week now and its getting old! A partially done post that I thought saved as draft posted on its own and a couple other errors that make my forehead meet keyboard. Those are mashed up with not wanting to get out of bed one wit! Tomorrow… SLEEPING IN! (maybe a nap today if I can convince dude) But I do have a project to share! This post has been started about 3 times (thanks DSL) so hopefully it works out!

I’ve been mildly obsessed with the color yellow. A couple years ago I would have said “least used color besides purple” but that is SO turned around! This paper pad by October Afternoon (Sidewalk) is only fueling my obsession with some great stuff! For you copic people out there, yellow can be tricky to shade because if you use black, its going to get a green cast to it. I typically shade with Y28 and browns. Its something I learned when I used to paint. Though the Ws don’t look bad :) Experiment time!

For some reason I really wanted to roll some paper, not a clue why but I thought it would turn out really cute and it worked surprisinly well though its a hand out card rather than a mail out card! Otherwise be prepared for smooshage! I kind of did a portrait shot with Gwen for the image, Stamped with Memento on XPress It.

Hair: E40, E41, E42, E43
Skin: E00, E02, E11, V93, RV13, R30
Clothes: Y21, Y35, Y38, Y28
Eyes: YG61, YG63

DH is off tomorrow and I might just get my craft on Saturday as well! Besides a little house work (that I really should do today!) I can’t think of what else needs doing. I’m hoping to get all the To Dos done today! Its getting late though! Better get a move on!

Recipe Challenge at Some Odd Girl

by Kristy on November 17, 2011

The challenge today at Some Odd Girl is a Recipe Challenge! You may think those are restricting but really they aren’t! You just have to think a smidge and all your elements will come right together! When I got this card this far I was like “Where am I going to put punched/die cut element?” And then I was like DUH I already did! I die cut the circle! It doesn’t have to be tough :) And I am famous for over thinking hehe.

Have you ever gotten into a rut or just going thru the motions with your crafting? I can see now that I was like that before having my Intermediate Certification class at the beginning of the month. I admit to having more opportunity to craft than some people but I also have a ton getting in the way between family and running Some Odd Girl so actually craft time is once a week (usually Sunday while I watch Football :DD ) . Getting a lot done in a little time is a priority but after taking the class it really reminded me to slooooow down and have fun! Well, I always have fun ;)

This was one of the first cards I finished after taking the class and I love how she turned out shading and all! YAY! I’ve got a new skin shading color that I’m really liking after thinking a bit at the class about what would work well. I’m using v93 and v95 and I love the color it gives the shadows, a real depth to me :)

For the card I used Sweet Thinkin Mae stamped with Memento on XPress It. The papers are October Afternoon and the card base is DCVW. Mae is colored with Copics:

Hair: E21, E23, E25, E27
Skin: E00, E01, E11, V93, V95, R00, R01, R12
Clothes: YG01, YG13, YG17, YG61, YG63, YG67

Moral of the long winded story, you may not realize you’re in the rut until you’re shoved out of it.  :>

My Best Project of the Week 6

by Kristy on November 15, 2011

1. Michelle     2. Susan     3. Linda

Week 6! YAY! Some fabulous and stunning projects were linked up! In our Mash up, Michelle brings an amazing LO that I love because its so eye catching with the colors and design with a wonderful free and playful feel. She always rocks my socks! Then Susan… wow! You probably couldn’t tell by the little linky thumbnail (I couldn’t) but look at the amazing art on her card! The quilled tree made my mouth agape! Lastly Linda has a sweet and elegant style that I can’t imagine being able to pull off!

My fav project of last week was my card I shared on Friday…

I picked it because I worked hard on getting the skin tone and being happy with it. Maybe that’s a small thing but it makes me give a happy FIST PUMP! :DD

Now its your turn to share! You have thru Friday to link up. I’ll feature a random number of projects back here next week. Remember to be featured in the collage (and maybe win a prize in the future if we grow big and fab) you must put our cute ribbon (seen below) on your post. I won’t delete links but you won’t be eligible for extras. To read the whole lo-down on this fun linky party just pop over to the first week’s post for every detail. Any project that you made by hand is eligible! Cards, scrapbook LOs, jewelry, sewing etc etc etc. Just pop the badge on the post and link it up :DD

Fall Walk

by Kristy on November 14, 2011

We went on a fall walk a couple weekends ago that will probably be the last nice one of the season. Sunshine, cool but not cold, where everything just seemed to GLOW because it was just that type of day. We went to the next town out in the boonies over and walked the historial bridge. It used to be one of the swing bridges that cars could drive over, in the 1860s, but now it neither swings or has cars driving on it. Its been repaired and turned into a little park. Its a long span and the kids loved the tromping sound as they went across.

Across the way from the bridge is the bridge for the railroad tracks. The underside dated the bridge to being built in 1870. Purty amazing eh?

There was a little nature trail you could walk on one side of the bridge too.

but the coolest thing I found about the walk, besides how much the kids dug it and how frickin adorable they are walking side by side, was the graffiti on the bridge. Not a big fan of gang tags and growing up where I did, trust me, seen alot of them! But these, coupled with the rust and age on the bridge were just eye catching!

The first one I noticed, and thank gawd my camera has an awesome zoom bc I was getting the pic from the foot bridge, was a robot (or so I’m calling it).

He’s above one of the center pillions in the river so someone really had to put some effort into getting him there! I love the rust and the colors bleeding thru from some previous work behind him. Just cool.

Another that caught my eye was right before we walked under the bridge to hit the nature trail.

Then when we went under the bridge it was like a whole world of its own inside!

It looks like the whole length inside had one thing or another on it. The bottom is open completely to the river, you’d have to balance out on one of those slim metal bars to get in there and its too wide and tall to brace yourself. Finding this urban grunge looking thing in the middle of rural pastoral life was kinda neat. The contrast to its surroundings made it stand out.

When we went back to the small parking lot my Dude pointed this out.

Its pretty much my fav pic of him ever! :DD I like how you can tell by his face that he finds the double arrow thing funny, just like his Momma hehe.

Most of the days since have been a dreary grey, windy and rainy. Fall is my fav season but it also bums me out a little bit bc I know its arrival means winter is coming and I’m seriously not looking forward to the piles of snow we’re sure to have.
