    Veil | Speed Painting

Howdy! I told you I’d be back this week with another video from my personal art channel on the youtubes. I’m also endeavoring to up the golly gee whiz attitude this week vs the droll nap that was a week ago. Bringing back the pep! Now, this video is my speed painting, in Manga Studio, of the past patreon exclusive line art, Veil. Now I know most people who read my blog, unless those might be crickets I hear, do their painting and coloring with more traditional methods… markers, watercolor (jealous, they hate me!), pencils, etc… so before you go BOO and not watch the video which is only 10…

    Coffee | Speed Drawing

Well this sweet girl has finally hit my shop as a digi stamp, titled Coffee Lover Mae.    I’m not a coffee drinker but I can relate to that first sip of caffeine in the morning, that look of being grateful to the caffeine goddess for its sweet existence, making me not sleep all day long.         Watched the video? If you did you’ll relate when I say the theme is “I know something isn’t quite right but I can’t quite figure out what”.   It goes like that sometimes but I think this one was an extreme example of tweaking things, all I can say…

    Doll | Speed Painting

Last week was a semi-fail for having a video up to share, some quick changes around here derped my carefully laid plans. Today though I have one of my favorite pieces lately to share with you. It was a part of my patreon offerings for last month but it also ended up being one of my favs to color, check out Doll.     Is it just me or can dolls be super creepy?   I was going for creepy with her blank stare and pose but, and maybe its just me again, I think she had some of that but also looks weirdly serene… like a statue that evokes…

    Up Do | Speed Painting

Last week I shared the Speed Drawing video of this line art, Up Do. Today I have the Speed Painting video to share with you today. It took quite a while to paint so I hope you enjoy it…     I colored her in Manga Studio 5 with an interesting light source that I had fun playing with, low to her right, like the sun coming up as she’s getting ready for her day. I wanted her to have plenty of contrast in that lighting but for it to still look soft. To try for the look I wanted I tried painting in a different way.   In Manga Studio, vs…

Up Do | Speed Art Video

Now that I’m regularly drawing on my tablet monitor I can do some really nice Speed Art videos for you guys! Yay technology! In this video I recorded the creation of Up Do, a line art from my August Patreon…     This is the first video I’ve done of start to finish drawing and inking. The video is sped up to 750% from the actual, or so says my Adobe Premier Elements, from that you can get a pretty good idea on the actual time this took. Watching it back I maybe could have sped it up a bit more, what do you think? I didn’t want to over…

    Faded, a new art print

My latest art print, Faded, was an interesting process and didn’t end up as I expected it to.       When I drew the line art, I knew that I wanted to do a very dramatic lighting with this piece, her sultry expression demanded it.    On my other pieces I started out with a base color in the area I was working on and build up my colors, this was similar but instead of building up highlights, shadows and midtones on my base, the entire base was my shadow. I worked in a monotone of navy blue thru a pale blue, on top I added highlights in yellows…

Between the Real and the Odd

Art is always an evolution and lately I’ve been playing around in my Ballpoint Pen Sketchbook, seeing if I could get something part way between my realistic style and my Odd style.   Here’s what I came up with…     What do you think?   An need smish of both worlds. Kaylee and her crew look nothing like, at 6 years old, that they did in year one, and while I don’t foresee them having any giant changes coming up, bridging that gap and seeing where it takes me is another art adventure. The style I use for Some Odd Girl is one I developed all on my own,…

    Raise, new art print

Woohoo! First official full week of my new blog schedule, if you missed it last week, Monday’s are Art days. I wanted to share a bit more with you about my latest art print, Raise. Its my third print since starting this part of my art journey. I really feel like there’s been a learning curve with picking up new techniques and coming to grips with the differences between traditional mediums that were my go to’s and this. Besides the fact that I can not, as of yet, go color in bed while watching tv, that is a goal for the future. In the first piece, Wind, it was mostly,…
