Artsy Wednesday

April 6th, 2011 by Kristy

I’m sure I’m not the only one out there that loves to bring home fun, bright and happy art into their home/office/studio. I just last week fell in love with a print from Etsy and had to buy one. I got looking around as I just sent in 2 pieces of my own art to get printed and their on their way back to me. So, starting with the one I bought, here’s some art of Etsy I’d love to own too :)

They all make me smile in one way or the other :) I love that! AND I’m all about supporting artists! Do you have any artist that you LOVE? I’d LOVE to see it! :)

Well on my way

To my first Art Print! I’m really excited! This is Little Red Riding Kaylee. I’m creating this part separately and will be hand coloring it next then putting it with the background I will be working on next. This is a little daunting, making an actual piece of art for my Etsy vs just designing an image for my stamps. I’m not exactly sure why, people judge either when they see it but maybe I’m just used to it with the stamps. Putting my finished art pieces out there has always made me nervous. I can’t remember having a bad experience, I guess the chance of it might be enough to give me butterflies. After completing this I need to figure out where to have it printed. Local or online? 5×7 or 8×10 or both? What do you  like when you buy a piece of art?

Another bit, tomorrow I’ll be joining the girls at Paper Issues for our first ever Blog Hop! The theme is Fav’s and lovely Michelle has been organizing it, sweating and worrying over it. So hop to the PI blog at 9am on the 19th for all the deets! You can see one of the prizes that are going to be available from Miss Cassie here. See ya then! You can also see the sneaks for the hop on the PI Blog but here is my lil sneaky  ;-)

Its like two sneaks in one! Odd fans won’t want to miss the hop either

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway if you haven’t already!

March 2nd, 2011 by Kristy
This is Bee Tia from yesterday’s Some Odd Girl March 1st Spring Release :) I seriously couldn’t be a spring release with out a buzzy bee! I used Sass Indie Girl papers, AC thickers and Jenni Bowlin letters, MM brads and Kaiser Craft flowers. Of course Tia is colored with copics.
Skin: YR000, YR00, E11, R02
Hair: E50, E51, E53, YR14
Clothes: N1, N3, N5, N7, Y00, Y02, Y04
On other fronts, I’ve got an idea in my head (these things get stuck there lol) to do a Copic Coloring E-Course. If there are any copic newbies or regular users who have questions or techniques they’d like to see answered/shown please either email me, Kristy@someoddgirl.com or leave them in the comments below. Any comments are always welcome!

Anniversary Week! Day 2!

January 17th, 2011 by Kristy

Our first official Challenge of anniversary week is now up! AND its got a great prize! The challenge is just to use 1 digi in 3 different ways. You can do it on one project, two or three projects. On the blog, Robin and Cassandra have an assortment of different projects (layout, card, tins and tags) each using 1 digi in 3 different ways. I used 1 digi, Dancin Kaylee, on 3 cards. I made 1 small and punched it, I made one HUGE and FLIPPED it and I made one mid sized and used the whole image.

I used alot of Sass, Nerdy Bird, on these cards with touches of American Crafts and Bella Blvd. Kaylee I colored with Copics:
Skin: YR0000, YR000, YR00, R02
Hair: E53, E25, E27, E29
Clothes: V12, V15, YR23, YR65, YR31, RV25, E41

I finished the last card up this morning, the other 2 and my 3 projects for the rest of the week I finished all yesterday afternoon. I might be a lil carded out LOL! Give me until tomorrow and I’ll be good ;) I have to say the second one, the “Girls Night Out” card I am loving. Love how big Kaylee rawked on the simple layers :)

This challenge doesn’t have to be tough but can be a way creative endeavor! Let’s see it! The prize for this challenge is 3 digis of your choice from the shop AND a $10 gift certificate to Oozak.com! You will want to get in on that! So join in with us everyday this week for a new challenge and fun things!

Copic Refill Tut :)

January 11th, 2011 by Kristy

I finally have had to refill a couple of the colors of copics I have. Skin tones, of course, were my first to start getting dry. So poor Rusty at Oozak had to ship me some refills (I’m sure he was so bummed to take my money, poor Rusty indeed lol ;) ) so I could be a appy colorer again. While I was at it I thought I would change out a couple of the nibs. I hardly ever use the wide end on my copics, especially with skin tones, so I wanted to change it to a round tip. I have a lil pic step by step on how to change the tip and refill. Neither one is tough but if you haven’t tried or think about it first you might have to buy yourself a new tip or two :)

First, gather your goods: the poor dry marker, the matching various ink refill, a pair of tweasers or an alligator clip and if you are changing tips, your new tips.
To refill, take your tweesers or alligator clip and latch onto the wide tip of your marker. DO NOT pull out the brush end to refill! It will shred the tip! If you’re changing the tip then go for it but think before you pull!

I used my alligator clip (this one came with my Pebbles Inc Chalk set) because it has the handy teeth on it, better for gripping :) . Pull the nib straight out of the barrel, it should slid right out.

Next open your ink and slowly add drops to your marker. The end is plenty wide to get the drops in but you can buy a special refilling needle (on the link, first one in row two) if you think you are likely to be super messy. For a dry marker copic suggests these amounts per marker
Ciao- add 1 to 1.5 cc’s
Sketch- 2 cc’s
Copic 2-3 cc’s
Wide 3-4 cc’s

Its better to underfill (which these amounts are suggested to do) rather than over fill. You can always add more but taking it out by scribbling is just a waste :) CC’s are marked on the side of the refill bottle. A refill bottle contains 25 cc’s so you can see how refilling can save you tons!
Next I added my new nib. Medium round. The right side is the end that you want to insert in the barrel of your marker.

Set your marker aside for a lil bit so all the new ink evenly distributes inside and viola! You are ready to go!

Long time no see!

January 10th, 2011 by Kristy

Or at least that’s the way it feels :) Did anyone else seem to have a really long weekend? I’m not meaning that the relaxing never ended, I think it was bc I did a lot of cleaning and hanging and sorting, going out to the store or my SILs house for her birthday, just alot of things packed into 2 days. Not to mention DH was home Saturday, he usually works the weekend, and the days he’s home seem longer… not in a bad way lol!!! Just longer. That didn’t come out right at all! ;) Which reminds me! If you, or maybe your husband (you know if yours is! LOL!!!), is into comics, movies, and more geekery (which is a loving term here) then send them on over to my hubs blog: Tribble Zombie. The name is kinda a joke but seems appropriate in its own way :) Its new and he could use some blog buddies and I know I’m not the only chick married to a geek!

Today I’ve got a lil card to share featuring a new Some Odd Girl digi called Love Balloon.

This card sorta came together by accident with the scraps of papers laying about. The sentiment is computer printed :) I was also pleasantly surprised that the balloon had the right amount of stripes for the rainbow coloring… not a fore thought lol. I wish I could claim to be so smart :) Balloons were colored with copics: R24, YR04, Y04G05, B28, E25
I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and aren’t too bummed about starting the work week again!

January Digi Day Challenge!

January 7th, 2011 by Kristy

Is up over at the Some Odd Girl blog now :) The challenge for the month is to make a valentine’s/love themed card that does NOT feature RED or PINK. It can have red and pink but it can NOT be the dominate color of the project. Here’s the example I made:

Deers mean love to me bc my hubs in MY dear :)
Lots of things going on here lol. Papers are Cosmo Cricket and Sassafras, label is October Afternoon, doily sticker is Hambly, mini alphas are MLS, chipboard heart is Love, Elsie, ribbon is (I believe) American Crafts and Deery is colored with copics: E13, E15, E18, E49, E30, E31, E33, R02, R22.

I hope you’ll join us over at the blog for Digi Day! You can link up thru Sunday at 6pm EST :)

Copic Coloring

December 21st, 2010 by Kristy

I had a request a bit back for a tut about doing a specific hair color. Since I have a voice again I gave it a go! Check out the vid for all the deets

Just as a refresher the colors I used are E74, E77, E79, E49 W1, W3,W5,W7. You could probably pair that down by a couple but its what I used to get this exact color.

I mentioned in the vid that I was working from a reference photo of Megan Fox (jealous of her hair!!! seriously, mine is never so full and its thin so is never so lovely long BOO) to try and match the color. Here’s the pic

and here is how mine turned out
Not exact but with my limited inventory of colors I think Its pretty good! If you have any requests of questions just let me know and I’ll see if I can answer them for you! I plan on having an upcoming vid on changing your tips and refilling too. My fav skin tone is DRY, envision tumble weeds and cacti, and have the refill on the way with some medium round tips to replace the broad end that I never use :) so look for that!
