Welcome to the second edition of Color Swatch! Last time I shared with you a basic light skin combination using both Copic Markers and Spectrum Noirs. This week I’m going to share with you a basic Blonde hair combo
For each of these colorings I used Copic XPress It paper and compared colors until I came up with 2, 5 color blends that were really similar. Each has 4 colors and 1 for a shadow color. The shadow color is added on the gradient after the dashed line so you can see the mix with and without.
This combo does look a little different in person vs in scanner, but its pretty close.
I have noticed as I’m starting to work with the 2 brands more side by side that while both are alcohol markers that they do blend differently, especially in more midtone to dark ranges. For the shadow colors I’ve included I recommend layering them on when the first 4 colors are dry then going back over it with the darkest of those 4 to “blend” it in. I haven’t quite figured out what I think the difference is, that’s going to take a bit more work. Knowing your medium and its particular qualities will make you a better colorist in the end so its always fun to experiment.
Now for you I have a blank version for Hair of the swatch I’m using above. You can use it to recreate this color combo, Spectrum or Copic, or with any medium you choose as its medium neutral.
The colored versions above are great to pin, save to your computer (just right click -> save image), or even print but remember, printing will not give you an accurate color like printing this on your prefered coloring paper and coloring it yourself will. With later combos and topics I will be having different swatches for you to use.
Please feel free to share these by linking back to my blog, and this post, so others can see all the information and grab their own blank swatches.
Any requests for the next Swatch?
I’ll see you for our next Color Along tomorrow at 1pm!
