Elaine’s Northern Lights coloring tutorial

Hi folks, Elaine from Quixotic Paperie here!

I’m excited to be joining in with Kristy’s blog party again this year, with so many talented people. I’m definitely a fan of Some Odd Girl stamps, so it’s always a pleasure to get to work with them.

Today I’ve got a little step by step for you, featuring one of the recently released clear stamp sets – Winter Friends. When I saw this set I knew I wanted to create a little scene with the adorable penguins and polar bear cub. Creating stamped scenes is one of my favourite things to do, and I love to experiment with different ways of building a scene and colouring the background.

I decided to try and create the impression of the northern lights in my winter scene with our Arctic friends, so my step by step focuses on showing how I built up the sky colouring.

Here goes! I hope you enjoy the step by step and perhaps find it useful.

And here it is on a finished card!

I hope this inspires you to try this and try something new!

I learned the hard way to cut the image out before coloring – after completely coloring an image, I stuck it in my Silhouette to cut, but the print and cut was off somehow. I saw it was about to cut through my image, so I yanked the paper backward in complete panic! After I canceled things properly I found out I had broken the blade – glad I didn’t do any worse damage! I did save the image, though! It was a close call. Phew!
