Copic Refill Tut :)

I finally have had to refill a couple of the colors of copics I have. Skin tones, of course, were my first to start getting dry. So poor Rusty at Oozak had to ship me some refills (I’m sure he was so bummed to take my money, poor Rusty indeed lol 😉 ) so I could be a appy colorer again. While I was at it I thought I would change out a couple of the nibs. I hardly ever use the wide end on my copics, especially with skin tones, so I wanted to change it to a round tip. I have a lil pic step by step on how to change the tip and refill. Neither one is tough but if you haven’t tried or think about it first you might have to buy yourself a new tip or two 🙂

First, gather your goods: the poor dry marker, the matching various ink refill, a pair of tweasers or an alligator clip and if you are changing tips, your new tips.
To refill, take your tweesers or alligator clip and latch onto the wide tip of your marker. DO NOT pull out the brush end to refill! It will shred the tip! If you’re changing the tip then go for it but think before you pull!

I used my alligator clip (this one came with my Pebbles Inc Chalk set) because it has the handy teeth on it, better for gripping :). Pull the nib straight out of the barrel, it should slid right out.

Next open your ink and slowly add drops to your marker. The end is plenty wide to get the drops in but you can buy a special refilling needle (on the link, first one in row two) if you think you are likely to be super messy. For a dry marker copic suggests these amounts per marker
Ciao- add 1 to 1.5 cc’s
Sketch- 2 cc’s
Copic 2-3 cc’s
Wide 3-4 cc’s

Its better to underfill (which these amounts are suggested to do) rather than over fill. You can always add more but taking it out by scribbling is just a waste 🙂 CC’s are marked on the side of the refill bottle. A refill bottle contains 25 cc’s so you can see how refilling can save you tons!
Next I added my new nib. Medium round. The right side is the end that you want to insert in the barrel of your marker.

Set your marker aside for a lil bit so all the new ink evenly distributes inside and viola! You are ready to go!

What an awesome tutorial! I just started using Copics last year so I haven't reached the point where I need to refill yet but I'm so glad I know how to now! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Have you ever used these markers on fabric. Am considering buying a set and wondered if you had an opinion.

These instructions are great. Very helpful, but I couldn’t see any images at all. Just triangles with exclamation points in them.
Have the images been removed or is something amiss with my iPad?

I could still do it from what I had read, but the photos would have been extra helpful. 🙂

thanks for the heads up on the broken images! Gives me the perfect chance to retake them. I’m glad the written instructions were still helpful!
