Tuesday To Do – Copic Tut: Skin Tones

Happy Tuesday!

Probably the number one request I’ve been getting since doing these copic tuts is for Skin Coloring. Its the one biggest question and one with a ton of answers. As you all know, like alot of you out there, I don’t have all 334 colors of copics and I’m sure there are many many more combos than the ones I’m going to showcase today. You can see the colors I have to work with by clicking on the Copic Hand Coloring Chart to the left, freshly updated 🙂

What I’ve done is used the colors I have and have colored 8 skin combos for you to look at. You can get some good skin combos from 2 colors but for depth I’ve used 3 and occasionally 4 (adding W3 for shading). I want to start with my fav skin combo…

This combo isn’t the most popular out there for a basic caucasion but I think the tone of this group is closer to reality for me 🙂 Here is that most popular starter
Next i have tanner versions of both groups…

One thing I like to do is to add W3 for the shadows you normally get where hair hangs over or clothing shades skin etc…
next I have a couple different skin combos…
more of an olive tone skin
This combo you can also lighten up slightly by starting with E11, E13, E15.
I’m not thrilled with this set mostly because The E20s only have E21, E25, E27 and E29. The gap between 21 and 25 is a bit much for the combo and E34, which is what I went with isn’t perfect to go with E25 and E27. Not bad though! You can also take this combo darker by skipping E34 and starting right with E25, E27 and E29.
Here is a few finished products 🙂
In these I used the 4th color of W3 to add the shadows that seem to give it that final touch 🙂
Next week I’ll be bringing you a video on coloring skin and using the W3 (my usual color) for those shadows. The vid isn’t recorded yet so if you have any questions that you want answered ask them here and I will try and get them in next weeks post!
I am also going to be adding a set to my flickr account and keeping all these pics of color combos there for easy reference. Its purty barren right now so I’ll need a lil time 🙂 Thanks for joining me again today!
