DESIGN DOLLIES FIRST EVER BLOG HOP!

Design Dollies invite you to “Hop through the Dollhouse” on our very first blog hop!

If you’ve arrived from the Design Dollies Challenge Blog, then you’re on track. If you’ve come across the hop quite by accident, you can join in by starting at the beginning at Design Dollies and hopping across to each in order.

  1. Design Dollies
  2. Kristy (ME!!!)
  3. Penny
  4. Karen
  5. Metal Minish
  6. Leah
  7. Chiqui
  8. Dana
  9. Nicole
  10. Adina

Hop on over, in order, to each blog and get to know each Dollie by checking out our ‘Getting to Know You’ projects. I know alot of the Dollie will be asking you to guess what Doll in the banner is theirs but b/c mine has been up for a while AND is in my personal blog banner it seemed a lil redundant. SO I decided to do a lil story BEHIND my Doll with a project…

Maybe this story has already been told… well I know it has but it was waaaaaaay back at my birthday last year but my Lucky Momiji Doll was a giftie from my Trixie-Leah-Dollie. When we were getting ready to start this very blog we were all looking for Dollies that represented us and I came across Lucky. I gushed repeatedly about how much I dug her. Well a couple weeks later I get a package at my door and it was from Leah. She had hunted down Lucky  and sent her to me with a gob of goodies (see that post here)! Can you believe that!?!?  Lucky has such a place in my heart! She sits on my crafty desk with me everyday and hangs out with my lawn gnome.

I now have a wish list for more Momiji LOL! Well I would like each hopper to tell me a story (long or short) about a moment like mine where someone did something nice for you out of the blue, OR maybe you were the one doing the deed. EITHER OR. Leave me your comment and I will enter everyone who tells their tale into a drawing for a RAK…

The winners will be announced on the Dollies Blog on Tuesday so check back to see if you won!

Next on the “Hop through the Dollhouse” is Penny – be sure to check out her amazing talent and leave her some love!

You’ve got till Sunday at 10pm to join in the fun… hop to it!

Hi Kristy, I'm not playing along but I did want to pop in and leave some loving 🙂 LOVE LOVE LOVE your LO and the story behind it. I lived in Japan for three years and collected kokeshi from a number of different provinces. They all got boxed up when we moved house and one day when we have re-built, I'll bring them back out again and find them a special place. Loving the polka dot flowers and the gorgeous tassels!!

WoW! So many beautiful layouts! My favourite Random Act Of Kindness was when I first started gardening, and I commented on one ladies beautiful bulbs, they were outstanding. When I came home from work the following day, there was a patch in the garden dug up, and a little note left on a stake: 'As you love mine so much, here are some for you to enjoy, Love Monica'. They were so beautiful, and every time I have moved house, I dig them up and take them with me! Cheers, Beck

Hi! I'm so excited – this is my first ever blog hop : ) ok, my story – it's about the most amazing birthday present ever. When I turned 40 in April instead of just one gift, my amazing husband knew that I wasn't taking turning 40 well – I felt like my life was over! So to show me that life begins at 40 he bought me a year of experiences. So far I have had tea at a v v posh hotel, seen Mark Knopfler in concert and been to the Rocky Horror Show. TODAY I am on my way to York races and to see Madness in concert. I still have drawing lessons, flying birds of prey, diving a Ferarri and lots of other v exciting events to come. You can see the list on my blog here…www.arty40.blogspot.com

Thanks for your story Kristy. Your doll is very sweet!

What a fun way to start off the blog-hop! I love your layout… just stunning 🙂
I think one thing that comes to mind about someone doing something nice for us out of the blue was when some friends from church cooked us a lovely meal and just dropped it off to us one afternoon. We didn't ask them to do that, and in some ways it seems like such a little thing. But both me and my husband were quite busy with lots of different things at the time, and with two beautiful daughters under three, she just figured I didn't need the added stress of having to cook dinner for everyone as well. It was just incredibly thoughtful 🙂
    I certainly appreciated it.
    xx

For Christmas this past year a co-worker/friend bought me a gift. We never exchange gifts at work so I was very embarrased. Even more so when I got home and opened my gift and found it to be a Dooney and Bourke purse. We have know each other for 20 years but that was way above and beyond. She said she knew that with dh laid off it was something that I would not get myself. That bag goes with me everywhere and I can never thank her enough.

One of my sibling's mother in law is a docter in the small town that my mother and siblings lived in. She is a beautifully kind women who does great things for people and asks for nothing in return. I admire her greatly! When my Mom was in the last stages of breast cancer the MIL made my Mom comfortable and really went above and beyond for our family. She was not my Mom's Dr. and could have easily done nothing. You could tell she cared for my Mom and wanted to do whatever she could for her! After my Mom passed away I wanted to let her know that she was appreciated and loved! On the way out of town I stopped by the local florist and had a bouquet of flowers and two Willow Tree angels delivered to her with a not telling her she was appreciated and loved. I sent it anonymously because I did not need her to know it was from me or my family. I just wanted to let her know that she touches people and is very loved!!

    Hi Kristy,

I have a story about Leah. She sent my daughter Mady a nice assortment of goodies so she could have her own scrappy stuff. Mady spent hours coloring in the stamped images, cutting apart papers and glueing. Her and I appreciated it very much.

Hi Kristy! Your Doll is super-cute and I love the story of how you got her 🙂

I'll try to keep my story short: A few years ago, my parents bought a new car. Instead of trading in their old car, they gave it to me and my then-husband. Already having two older cars, former husband and I decided to sell one of the older cars, since we didn't feel we needed three. As we were deciding to list it in the paper, it came to our attention that one of his brothers (along with his wife and four kids) was now without a car because of repeated breakdowns and they couldn't afford to get it fixed or buy something else being between jobs, and were relying on other people to give them rides. Instead of selling it, we decided to give them one of our older cars, for free.

  • Christine says:

The first one to come to mind is when I was ill some time ago, my friends would just come right over to help without being told or asked. One gal came and got my laundry every Friday and brought it back on Monday, they set up a schedule and took me to the mall to walk everyday (since I couldn't drive), they'd bring me food, etc, etc. They were all great!!!

One of my best friends in someone I have never met. I meet her a few years ago on a message board and we always send each other little gifts for Christmas and for our birthdays. This year she surprised me with a super warm pair of socks because she knew the house we has just moved into has a freezing basement.

  • Metal_Minish says:

That is such a cool page, and love the story behind it! Lucky is a lovely dollie indeed~
Wish I could play along for your yummy RAK, but ah well… ;3

  • Chiqui says:

It's really amazing how friendships are built 'coz of scrapping. Some of my closest friends now are those I met through scrapping! Ohhh, I love the pop of pink on your layout but I've always loved your style anyway!

  • Diana Fisher says:

My story is about my scrappy friend, Julie. She's surprised me with happy mail on more than on occasion and as also managed to make and send me pages she's made of me and my son. It means so much to me when she remembers me!

And… I love Kristy and Trixie, too, of course!! You girls are just the best. I love hanging out with you here online.

  • Leah the Orange says:

i just LURVE you, honey! it was fate when i saw that little dollie in the paper store in Princeton! we'll be going back sometime next week, so i'll be on the lookout (though i know it won't make for a story like the first one). 🙂 i know you were surprised, and i am SO pleased you love her so much! she had to be yours.

and you totally made me cry.

my story? it came from a really awful experience, and led three similarly minded crafty gals to break free and do their own thing… it's snowballed into something much bigger than any of them could ever have imagined, it's brought much joy and wonderful friendships, and it's only still the beginning! 😀

  • Chloe :-) says:

I just love your LO! Such sweet little flowers :-). I once got a lovely scrappy RAK in the mail from my sis-in-law just because she is lovely and was thinking of me 🙂 it sure made by day/week/month!!!

  • Lorna May says:

    Peoples kindness blows me away.
I have a half-hour walk (one way) to school every day usually a fine walk. But when it was heavy/icy snow here in Uk I was heavily pregnant and struggling. A lady who walks the same route sent me home, she then took and collected my son everyday while the weather was bad. To her it was a little thing but to me a BIG thing and greatly appreciated.

  • TeenaBugg38 says:

Awww what a cutie she is!! Let's see, I don't count my RAKs…..lol. Not that I am a perfect person but I do love to suprise my friends with little tokens to let them know they are special to me, especailly if they are going thru a hard time. Sometimes words are hard to find to let someone know you care but a little RAK goes a long wayyyyys :0 Now the whole world knows what a softy I am and my rep is totally shot…thanks….LOL

  • Alison Day says:

Love the dollie and the story behind it – Leah sure is a sweetie!!
My RAK moment was when I was in the final weeks of pregnancy with my 3rd daughter. It was a particularly rough pregnancy – I was sick the whole 9 months and also pretty blue about having another daughter (I really wanted a boy). My SIL invited our family over for dinner and when we arrived … SURPRISE!! … it was a baby shower! Instead of more girly gifts everyone brought food to fill our freezer! It was AWESOME!!! Everytime I pulled something out of the freezer for dinner I thought of her and all my friends and thanked God for their generosity and thoughtfulness!!
PS – I am no longer blue about having 3 girls! I LOVE my girls and wouldn't trade them for anything!

I remember one time at University I was at the cafeteria, and I had lost my keys with my meal card attached, so I was going to pay for my milk with cash. The guy behind me, a complete stranger, put my milk on his meal card. Don't know why, totally random, but very kind just the same!

  • Yara says:

Love that you told us this beautiful story about the doll. One RAK was when, I was a contractor, at a project in Italy. My project was completed, and my friends from the project, gave me a surprise party, before me returning to Puerto Rico. The italian co-workers, gave me a beautiful neck lace and a card. As a contractor, normally you do not see good-bye parties. From the many projects and companies, I had worked this was an event, I will not forget.

  • Ashley says:

How cool! I have tons of brand new scrap supplies that I won't ever use (from winning contests & from past DT terms) so I often donate as random acts of kindness. Sometimes it's to a scrapper I know from a message board or website & sometimes it's to a group like a church or a boys & girl's club.

Congratulations on the success of Design Dollies and the first blog hop.

I think the best thing anybody ever did for me was lok after my bub in the first week so I could soak in the bath and recover.

  • bosenberries says:

Hey Kristy, just yesterday my friend showed me some love and helped me out. She took the time to print out a slew of digis for me and sent off my card pic for a GDT spot that I would have had to miss out on as my computer has a virus… I didn't expect her to do all that for me so it was extra sweet!
So cool that Leah did that for you! Robin

  • Danielle says:

That is such an awesome story!! Awww! Yeah Leah!!
Me? People have done nice things for me of course, but not so many mail you things for no good reason. HOWEVER…
A few months ago, for no reason at all, A blog friend of mine mailed me a Hello Kitty pillow. It is the shape of her head. I was like???? Because it wasn't my birthday, or a holiday of any kind. I wrote to her and gushed that I was sooo happy!! But still, had to ask her why? And she said when she saw it, it reminded her of me. Wasn't that nice??? I was blown away by that true "Random Act of Kindness".

There's my story!! Great post, great work, and have a super vaca!!!

  • Nicole Brenna says:

I took in my neighbors kids for 9 months when she couldnt take care of them. I loved them so much like mine own. It was a selfless act but I think I gained more from it then I could have ever imagined. Great prize and great story.
