A lil about me…

An artsy and crafty girl from tiny times, I grew up Kalamazoo, MI looking up to my grandmother as a large inspiration to keep trying new things. My grandmother was a genius behind the sewing machine and embroidered large wall pieces to decorate her home. My Grandfather was a Master Carpenter than brought about a love of furniture and wood though my talents were never in that direction. Art was always a great escape from home life growin up.

My big love is most easily a pencil and paper though I have been know to use acrylics, chalks, watercolors and ink. From the time my grandmother showed me the basics of drawing a face in profile, people were my fav art subject and worked hard to develop a realistic drawing style.I have a great love for both the realistic and the cartoon styles of art. The quick sketch and draw of the cartoon style and the realistic pieces that can take 6 hours at a time both are completely soothing and rewarding.

Both were just a hobby until in summer 2009 when friends had an original line art of mine turned into a red rubber stamps with the suggestion I take my show on the road. They were both wonderful sounding boards and willing guinea pigs in the months that followed until January 2010 when Some Odd Girl was launched. From very humble homespun beginnings the site has slowly grown and continues to grow. Some Odd Girl is my baby and we have plenty of ideas for the future. Growing the dream of working with what I love and turning it into a reality is a dream come true.

Some fun facts:
– I have been Copic Certified since June 2010!
-Turquoise is my FAV color but I’m totally into yellow with my crafty bits lately!
-Alphone Mucha is my ART HERO (next to my grandma)! I collect his prints but don’t have a spot for any one the walls right now… boo.
-Click pencils and windpower bristol to draw on please!
-I can play the Trumpet and Alto Sax. Also a tiny bit of clarinet and piano.
-I spent 4 years in my highschool marching band and 3 in Jazz Ensemble.
-My hair has been every color imaginable but black
-I love all things Kawaii and have a love of kitschy and retro, Mom always said I was born decades too late.
-My fav shows right now are Adventure Time, House, Glee and almost any home improvement show.
-I am quite handy around the house and enjoy remodeling, redecorating and demo.
